For many the centre of Bangkok is Siam square. It’s a familiar stop for anyone living in Bangkok, or any tourist visiting or passing through. Most will say that they have visited at least one, if not all of the mega shopping malls that can be found in the area. Most tourist and Bangkok locals have visited MBK and walking from shopping mall to shopping mall is easy -a simple hop over Siam BTS from MBK is Siam Discovery.  The shops here are slicker and more Westerized than the hurley burley of MBK.  A walk through Siam Discovery center will bring you out at Paragon shopping mall, this shopping mall is another step up – they dont come much bigger or better than Paragon. A whole host of some of the worlds most recognizable brands have flagship stores here and you can purchase almost anything, from top of the range electronics and furniture to the Western groceries available at the gourmet market on the ground floor that so many expats can’t do without. Paragon is a shopping mall that has it all, something for every budget, from simple cheap Thai food at the food court to top of the range more costly products. A multi screen cinema that includes an IMAX can be found here as well as bowling and an ice rink…You can quite simply lose yourself for the day at Paragon shopping mall.

Also worth noting is that Chit Lom BTS can be found outside the main entrance.

Just around the corner from Paragon, about ten minutes walk away, is Central World. In truth  Central World is more of the same, except it is even bigger than Paragon (or at least it was until the political unrest and the fire that came with it, but it is being rebuilt and a large part is now open to the public.) A sign for the future that Thailand is hopefully moving on and leaving the upheavel behind.

Other notable shopping malls are Central Chid Lom (accesable from BTS Chit Lom) that boasts a food supermarket that is one of the best in Thailand.

Gaysorn shopping mall at Ploenchit BTS also prides itself on not only having the very best of international brands but also showcasing  some of the top Thai designers. “Where are all the condos?” you may ask ,well, lets take a look at some starting at…

Condo One Siam

Just five minutes from Siam BTS, situated close to Jim Thompson’s house, is Condo One Siam. Rooms here start from 13,000 Baht for a studio and 17,000 Baht for a one bed. Facilities are those that you’d expect from a modern condo, but this condo is all about location, location, location – it really cant be beat. Condo One Siam’s popularity is built on its location – it’s even accessible via the canal behind the condo. This location was good enough for Jim and it’s good enough for us!
